Alternative fertilization approaches in enhancing crop productivity and nutrient use efficiency: A review

نویسندگان

چکیده

The greatest challenge of our time is to meet the global food demand by producing enough without harming environment. Over application and misuse synthetic fertilizer a major that results in lower use efficiency (FUE), stagnated crop yield, environmental pollution. In this review study, three alternative fertilization options (AFOs), such as organic enhanced-efficiency (EEFs), secondary, micronutrient fertilizers were evaluated. adoption appropriate practices was believed improve yield FUE over conventional approach. As late, has received more attention better counter challenges posed inappropriate chemical fertilizers. formulation slow or controlled-release contributes preventing nutrient losses slowing down release patterns soil allowing synchrony between nutrients requirement supply. secondary macronutrients also considerable importance uptake, grain quality. summary, result showed AFOs can enhance efficiency.

Maize productivity and nutrient use efficiency in Western Kenya as affected by soil type and crop management

Low soil fertility and high weed infestation are the main culprits for the declining maize production inWestern Kenya. Technology packages to address these constraints exist, but their effectiveness is likely to be influenced by variability in soil types and farm management practices in the region. Trials were conducted during the 2008/2009 cropping seasons to investigate the nutrient use e...

Maximizing root/rhizosphere efficiency to improve crop productivity and nutrient use efficiency in intensive agriculture of China.

Root and rhizosphere research has been conducted for many decades, but the underlying strategy of root/rhizosphere processes and management in intensive cropping systems remain largely to be determined. Improved grain production to meet the food demand of an increasing population has been highly dependent on chemical fertilizer input based on the traditionally assumed notion of 'high input, hig...

Nitrogen Fertilizer Management for Enhancing Crop Productivity and Nitrogen Use Efficiency in a Rice-Oilseed Rape Rotation System in China

The use of efficient rates of nitrogen (N) fertilizer application is important with regard to increasing crop productivity and maintaining environmental sustainability. Rice-oilseed rape rotations are a mainstay of the economy and food security of China. Therefore, a field experiment was carried out during 2011-2013 in Honghu to identify the most appropriate N application rates for enhancing cr...

Land surface modification and crop diversification for enhancing productivity of a Vertisol

Vertisols occur extensively in centralIndiaand have high production potentials. Because of the high clay content (40-60% or more), high bulk density (1.5-1.8 Mg m-3) and related properties, these soils have high moisture storage capacity. Conversely, these soils become very hard when dry and very sticky when wet. Since last two decades, scientists, farmers and also the policy makers have be...

challenges and approaches for enhancing of water use efficiency in field crops in iran

crop’s water use efficiency (wue) is one of the major indices for the efficient use of water for crop production in agriculture. based on scientific literatures, the concept of wue has been defined in all crop management, farm/field, and water basin/irrigation network domains. plant in particular, plays an important role in the efficient use of water and enhancement of wue. plant resistance to ...
